Friday & Saturday Dance
Parties |
 |
Saturday, December 12 The Viennese Waltz can
be beautiful to watch, but it is even
more beautiful to dance. Different kinds of
dance evoke different feelings in the dancer
just like different kinds of music evoke
different feelings in the listener. The famous
Viennese Waltz music such as
the Blue Danube was written after the dance
became popular, and the music expresses the
feeling of the dance as experienced by the
dancers themselves. A really good
Viennese Waltz has a magical
air about it, a magic that shows in many of the
ladies' faces. No other social dance that is
within the reach of ordinary people makes one
feel so good about oneself and one's partner as
the Viennese Waltz.

Friday,
December 19th Reportedly,
the first time the Waltz was danced in the United States was in
Boston in 1834. Lorenzo Papanti, a Boston
dancing master, gave an exhibition in Mrs. Otis'
Beacon Hill mansion. Social leaders were aghast
at what they called "an indecorous exhibition."
By the middle of the nineteenth century, the
Waltz was firmly established in
United States society. Music plays an important
role in dance, and every dance is dependent upon
the availability of the appropriate music. The
Waltz was given a tremendous
boost around 1830 by two great Austrian
composers - Franz Lanner and Johann Strauss.
These two composers were by far the most popular
during the nineteenth century: they set the
standard. Just $5.00 for

Saturday, December
19th In the 1940's a new style of dancing was
created and it was called the East
Coast Swing. This is a 6-count
dance that evolved from Lindy hop and other
swing dances. East coast and Lindy hop do share
a lot of similarities, especially the moves and
turns, but the body posture is different. The
dance is simple to dance, and to learn. It was
very popular in the Fifties when some people
simply named it Rock & Roll dance, since it
was danced to that music, while it was also
known under the names "jitterbug"
or just simply "Swing".
It's popularity is in a resurgence with many
studios holding regular East Coast Swing dance
nights. Just $5.00 for Lessons and
